Cashew nuts, an economy changer – President Lungu

PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu says cashew nut farming is a game changer for Zambia.

And President Lungu has urged farmers in Western Province to grow cashew nuts alongside other crops because it will allow them to have another source of income as they wait for them to mature.

President Lungu said the cashew nut crop is a high value crop that will create jobs for many Zambians.

The head of state said this during the launch of the cashew nut 2020 planting season and distribution of six million cashew seedlings in Sefula area of Western Province.

And a local farmer, Singalamba Munyinda who is a beneficiary of the Cashew infrastructure development project said she has already started seeing the benefits of growing cashew nuts.

Mrs Munyinda said she will now be able to take her children to school and fend for the family

Whilst in Sefula, President Lungu also toured fish ponds belonging to Muziwanjimo Cooperative group.

During the tour, President Lungu said his government will continue uplifting people’s lives through programmes such as fish farming.

And a former Linyunga dambo activist Mushokabanji Wamui said his team is happy with the PF government because they stand for the people.

Mr Wamui who is also the cooperative chairperson said President Lungu has reached out to everyone including his group.

And speaking on behalf of the Barotse Royal Establishment Dominic Lisulo said the BRE is happy with the leadership of President Lungu.

Mr Lisulo urged President Lungu to continue taking development to rural areas.

Meanwhile, Minister of Transport and Communications Mutotowe Kafwaya has disclosed that Government has increased the number of telecommunications towers in the  province from 46 to 120,

Speaking in an interview in Mongu, Mr Kafwaya said this was in an effort to allow the people have access to mobile telecommunications networks and other services.

He said the government would continue erecting more towers until the whole province is covered.
