Abuja-bound Women’s Beach Volleyball team named
THE Zambia Beach Volleyball senior women’s National Team is tomorrow expected to leave for Abuja Nigeria to take part in the second phase of Tokyo 2020 Olympics which runs from March 4-8.
And head coach Isaac Tembo named his final four players to represent Zambia in the second phase of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games Qualifiers.
The Zambian women are in group C with hosts Nigeria, Kenya, Cape Verde and Congo DR who will be eyeing for the two slots in the last 8 which is the final qualifying phase to the Olympics.
Tembo entrusted Zambia’s flag in the pair of the team captain Canicia Bwalya of Red Arrows and Mainess Ngoma of Kamwala Magic while the second pair is the duo of Grace Manyele and Brenda Mulenga of spiking Stars.
Zambia Volleyball Association (ZAVA) general secretary Gift Chesekela said the team would be accompanied by the head coach Isaac Tembo and Beach Volleyball Candidate Referee Lloyd Martin Mweemba.
Chesekela applauded ZAVA patron and Minister of Tourism Ronald Chitotela for having rendered support to the team in its preparations for the qualifying tournament.
‘’As a federation, we are thankful to the Zambia Volleyball Association Patron Ronald Chitotela for making the women’s journey a success and other partners who have been there for us.
“We are still appealing to individuals or corporate bodies to come on board to continue supporting us materially and financially so that together we can achieve our goal for the competition on this road to Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games,” Chesekela said.
Meanwhile Chesekela said ZAVA was looking to meet the Men’s remaining budget of K60, 000 for their competition in Maputo Mozambique slated for March 19-23 2020.
