Avoid overcrowding – Ndola DC

By MUYANI SHINJABALE
LACK of seriousness towards set measures to curb the Corona virus (Covid-19) has irked authorities in Ndola.
Most residents were not observing social distancing and were even crowding public and other places even in the face of Covid-19, which was sweeping across the globe.
Authorities have thus appealed to residents to avoid overcrowding as it could provide fertile ground for spread of the deadly disease.
Ndola District Commissioner, Antony Katongo, observed that people were overcrowded some places such as the national registration office without taking into consideration social distancing.
Mr Katongo threatened to temporary suspend the issuance of National Registration Cards if people failed to comply with social distancing.
“I will be left with no choice but to temporary suspend the issuance of National Registration Cards if people will not comply with social distancing,” he said.
He said it was saddening that a lot of people were not taking the measures which Government had introduced to curtail the spread of the pandemic seriously.
Mr Katongo also expressed concern on the non-availability of hand wash basins at the national registration office.
He emphasised the need for people to join Government in the fight against the coronavirus and making sure that the measures were followed.
Later, Mr Katongo joined the mobile sensitisation programme by the Lions Club International whose aim was to reach out to the communities through the public address system.
And Ndola Lions Club Governor for District 413, Sanjay Balid, said more than 7,000 face masks would be distributed to ensure that even a common man had a washable mask to avoid contracting the virus
