Quarantine recipe for marriage break-ups, says MP

By ROGERS KALERO
QUARANTINE being instituted in some Chinese organisations has the potential to break-up some marriages because some men or women cannot cope living without their spouses for a long time, Mufulira Central Member of Parliament (MP) Evans Chibanda has observed.
Mr Chibanda said some companies were quarantining their employees for more than 30 days for fear of spreading COVID-19, and if not well handled could lead to breaking up of marriages.
The MP, therefore, appealed to Chinese companies to review the quarantine and apply other preventives measures.
“With this COVID 19 with us, we have heard about some Chinese companies quarantining their employees for a long time. In some cases, quarantining them for as long as 30 days. I think this is a long time to quarantine people, especially those who are married,” Mr Chibanda said
Recently, Kitwe District Commissioner (DC) Chileshe Bweupe advised Sinozam Friendship Hospital to review its strict COVID-19 quarantine programme.
A number of workers at the Chinese-owned hospital complained about the strict quarantine programme, which kept them away from their families.
Mr Chibanda was particularly concerned that some quarantined programmes were being imposed on employees who had to follow instructions or lose their jobs.
He said such a programme was like holding people against their will and hoped that firms would introduce measures that would be acceptable to all stakeholders.
