By NOEL IYOMBWA
BY the age of 25 he was already heavily involved politics and by the age of 26 he became a civic leader in Matero constituency.
Born 39 years ago, Lee Mukupa is a former Patriotic Front councillor who has a heart for the community.
After failing to recontest in 2016, because he did not have a Grade 12 certificate, Mukupa has not given up and now he has all necessary documents to stand in any position.
Because of his dedication to serving the people and his hard many people including some members of his Party did not believe when he said that he was not going stand because he did not have Grade 12 certificate hence started going for evening classes at Matero Boys secondary until he obtained a Grade 12 certificate.
He served as secretary for Matero gym and he rose to the position of secretary general for Zambia Body building up to 2016.
Mukupa is also a patron for Zambia Disability Sports association and Winnie Musonda Hope Foundation – an organization looking after people living with HIV and AIDS.
Because of his love for the party, he has been appointed as constituency chairperson for newly created Matero East constituency.
“I would like to encourage young ones, that they can make it in life, even without a Grade 12 certificate. Many people were shocked that I had no Grade 12 certificate, but I did not stop supporting
the party no wonder they have considered again.
Going back to my political journey, I was inspired by the late Michael Sata because he came with pro poor strategy so I took courage to stand and I won the seat as a councillor in Matero,” he said.
“Lusaka mayor Miles Sampa also played a vital role in my political career I was main man during the campaign in 2011.I want to thank the party for uplifting youths.
“Last year I was appointed as constituency chairman for Matero East at my age it’s a challenges for the youths to stand up and be counted, the party is ready to expose youths in the country.”
Mukupa said God chooses leaders so for now his desire is to support the party and ensure that any candidate who will adopted, retains the seat.
“My desire is to see that we retain the seat in Matero so my focus is party mobilization for now.”
Mukupa is a family man and apart from being a politician, he is also a successful entrepreneur.
