BAULENI United Sports Academy (BUSA) has launched the Step Up project aimed at empowering the young and old in various communities.
BUSA Chief Executive Officer, Kaluba Kangwa said the project is critical as it will help families fight hanger during the Covid-19 period.
He was speaking during the launch of the project which empowered over 300 families with mealie meal in Bauleni, Kalikiliki and Makululu compounds
Kangwa said the pandemic has negatively affected players and families as they struggle to find food.
He, however, re-affirmed BUSA’s commitment to continue empowering the young and the old in various communities through the various programmes.
“Step Up is a project that BUSA is strengthening to fight the challenges surrounding the issues relating to the Covid-19 which has brought hunger in our communities.
“Things are not the same but we want to see better communities. Three to five years from now we want to see communities which are vibrant in so many areas,” Kangwa said.
Meanwhile, Zambia national women’s team captain Barbra Banda who started her football journey at BUSA hailed the club for the role it played in her development.
Banda who plays as a forward for Chinese club Shanghai Shengli urged parents to encourage the girl-child to participate in sports which has the power to change the lives of girls in communities.
And Shepolopolo winger Mary Mwakapila, a former BUSA player who plays for Green Buffaloes, encouraged upcoming players to be focused and heed to guidelines from their parents to make it in their football careers.
Meanwhile, Raban Banda who spoke for the beneficiaries hailed BUSA for contributing to the growth of youths in Bauleni. Banda urged BUSA to continue helping the pool through the Step Up programme aimed at helping players and the old in communities with foodstuffs during Covid-19 period.
