FRED M’membe should be the last person to accuse anyone of being a thief because he has issues with integrity as he is known to have engaged himself in tax fraud and other fraudulent transactions, the Patriotic Front has charged.

In an interview, Mr Chanda said it was uncalled for for Dr M’membe to accuse others of being thieves when he had issues with integrity.

Mr Chanda was reacting to remarks by Mr M’membe that, “when you see the President getting rich, just know that he has stolen. He is a thief. He should explain where that extra money is coming from because one cannot become rich on the salary of the President which is low.”

According to one tabloid newspaper, Mr M’membe said this when he was featured on a Hot Seat programme on Hot FM radio on Thursday.

Mr Chanda said Mr M’membe committed the crime of willfully and deliberately not meeting tax liabilities which led to the closure of the Post Newspaper.

Meanwhile, a member of the PF’s central committee, Mr Andrew Lubusha has said legal action need to be taken against Socialist Party leader, Mr M’membe to give facts before the court that President Edgar Lungu is a thief.

Mr Lubusha said it had become a trend, especially for opposition leaders and their sympathisers insulting the Head of State or aligning him in serious accusations.

He said in an interview that people needed to respect the Presidency and those found wanting must face the law.
