FOUR Twin Palm Secondary School leavers have been committed to the High Court for trial in the case they have been charged with allegedly killing a pupil of Kabulonga Boys Secondary School last December.
Lusaka Magistrate Nsunge Chanda yesterday committed the accused persons after public prosecutor Valerian Chulu presented a certificate of committal issued by the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The magistrate told the four, a man and three juveniles, that they will no longer appear before her and that they will await trial in the High Court in the next criminal session and remanded them in custody.
Elvis Nsokolo, 20, of plot 51, Sable Road Kabulonga, and three juveniles of Malata compound in Kabulonga and ZAF Twin Palm are alleged to have killed 17-year-old Ryan Phiri of Barlastone using golf sticks on December 4.
According to Police spokesperson Esther Katongo, Ryan was beaten by a group of pupils from Twin Palm Secondary School and later died at University Teaching Hospital the same day.
Ms. Katongo said the victim was a Grade 12 pupil.
She said the victim was reported to have been in the company of three colleagues who ran away after being attacked. The incident happened around 10:00 hours between Malata area and Twin Palm area.
