By MICHAEL MIYOBA

ANDREW Kamanga has been retained as FAZ president after he beat hallenger Emmanuel Munaile with a landslide victory during the delayed elective annual general meeting held yesterday at Fairmount Hotel in Livingstone.

FAZ Electoral Committee chairperson Ronald Hatoongo declared Kamanga as president after getting 57 votes, while Munaile, a former FAZ vice president got 29 votes.

A new term for Kamanga who first came into office in 2016 after he beat football icon Kalusha Bwala sent the Andrew Kamanga camp into jubilation.

And speaking after the polls which were held without any confusion, Kamanga promised to continue with his path of transparency and accountability.

Kamanga hailed the FAZ councillors for trusting him with another four years to ensure football development in the country.

He however called on FAZ councillors to unite and work together in their quest to develop the Zambian game.

“We have a lot of work before us, It has not been easy but whatever has happened in the last four years or five years it’s now things of the past, we should now look to the future with a lot of  optimism. We need to qualify to the Africa Cup, we need to go to the World Cup for the first time.  These remains our milestones as articulated in our 10-year plan,” Kamanga said. The FAZ polls saw former Zesco United CEO Justin Mumba being voted as the new FAZ vice president, a position which was previously held by the late Rix Mwemba who died last year.

Mumba amassed 55 votes, while his closest rival Gideon Mwenya had 31 votes. Konga Mundona did not get any vote in the vice presidency category.

Aelly Banda and and Hildah Mutangama got six votes respectively while Besa Kunda finished last in the females category with two votes.
