CHANGE ATTITUDE TOWARDS PATIENTS -CHILUFYA

POOR attitude of medical personnel in health institutions today is sending patients to their early graves, says Health minister Chitalu Chilufya.

Dr Chilufya said the standing of the nursing professional was far from what was envisaged by Florence Nightingale, the founder of the nursing movement.

He implored nurses to go out there and be hope to patients and let them be seen as life savers.

“Nurses are the front line for health care and services and it is important that personnel adhere to their responsibilities,” said Dr Chilufya.

In a speech read by Copperbelt Permanent Secretary Elias Kamanga, Dr Chilufya said poor attitude from health personnel in  hospitals and clinics was sending patients to their early graves, a situation which he said  change for the better.

The minister was speaking at a combined 41st Copperbelt graduation ceremony for nurses and midwives at the Levy Mwanawasa stadium.

 Dr Chilufya however said the success scored by the provincial health management team showed dedication placed on importance of human resource development for better health delivery.

The minister assured the health team of government continuous support to the sector in achieving health care delivery to all Zambians.

And Copperbelt Province Health Director (PHD) in his welcoming remarks, Dr Consisty Mwale described the statistics for this year as largest in the history of graduating nurses and midwives.

Dr. Mwale said the province also scored in history by producing the first 67 graduating e – learning programme which was being piloted in Mufulira.

And Child Fund International president Anne Goddard indicated that under the Zambia Nurse and Life Skills Training Programme (ZNLTP) the institution launched in 2013, capacity of nursing training institutions especially in rural areas has increased.

Over 1000 nurses and midwives graduated from nine training institutions on the Copperbelt province.
