GOVERNMENT will not hesitate to take disciplinary action against anyone frustrating the implementation of its development programmes, Luapula Province Minister Nickson Chilangwa has warned.
Mr Chilangwa also charged that Government would not take kindly to people frustrating investors who are interested in setting up businesses in the region.
Mr Chilangwa who is Kawambwa Central Member of Parliament told the Daily Nation yesterday that he was saddened with the poor working attitude by some of the civil servants in the province.
He said civil servants should take it upon themselves to spearhead development in their respective districts through identification of viable projects and push for their implementation.
“As civil servants you will not be remembered by how many files are piled in your office but by how many people have passed through your office and there are tangible results,
“These investors don’t need to be frustrated; they will go and leave you. In some districts things are moving while in others they are slow, why?” asked Mr Chilangwa.
Mr Chilangwa said despite some operational challenged civil servants are faced with, non-performance should not be an excuse.
Meanwhile, Mr Chilangwa has disclosed that the Luapula Province Infrastructure Symposium has begun sitting in Samfya district to deliberate on various investments taking place in the region.
Mr Chilangwa said that the gathering of both local and international investors was a follow up activity to the Luapula Expo and Investment Conference.
“Over 50 local and international investors have expressed interest in investing in Luapula Province.
“Some of the companies in attendance include Kumil Energy, Luano Railways, Sunbird Bioenergy Africa and Copperbelt Energy Corporation. Others are Kawambwa Sugar Limited, Mansa Sugar, GED Africa among others,” he said.
Mr Chilangwa said investors needed to interact with the provincial administration to give an update on issues surrounding their investments in the Luapula Province.
He disclosed that government was represented at the consortium by himself, his Permanent Secretary Dr. Buleti Nsemukila and his Tourism and Chiefs and Traditional Affairs counterparts.
