…..fans stop demolition of clubhouse to pave way for shopping mall

FORMER City of Lusaka chairman, Ziche Makukula, has urged the club’s new executive committee led by Justin Zulu to address the various issues that the club is facing at the moment.
But Zulu said all was well and that the executive was committed to taking the club to greater heights.
Makukula said that it is in the interest of City fans to see the club progressing.
In an interview with Daily Nation Sport in Lusaka, Makukula urged the current executive committee to explain to the public what is really going on for the challenges the cub is facing to be resolved.
“It is in the best interest of the fans to see the club progressing and what is crucial at the moment is for the current executive to explain to the public what is really going on at City.
“There are a lot of issues which need to be addressed by the executive,” he said.
It is alleged that on Monday City of Lusaka fans blocked the developer FOLI Investment Limited from demolishing the clubhouse to pave way for a new shopping mall.
The angry fans, who were led by former executive committee member Kebby Chilupe, said they could not allow the developer to erase the building without seeing the lease agreement.
But Zulu said the contractor was not blocked as they did not have any intentions of demolishing the clubhouse.
“The contactor was not blocked because they did not have any intentions of demolishing the clubhouse. The only thing which brought confusion was the relocation of our tenant.
‘‘We were moving him to another bar, a decision which did not go well with our fans as they thought that the clubhouse was about to be demolished,” Zulu said.
He added that the executive committee was doing everything possible to resolve the differences the club is facing and has called on the fans to support City in its quest to remain in the MTN/FAZ Super League.
Zulu also said that the club will this afternoon hold a press briefing to explain to the public the executive’s commitment to taking the club forward.
“We are moving to greater heights as City of Lusaka. We are finalizing on the misunderstanding at the club and we are calling on our fans to continue supporting City as we seek to remain in the Super Division.
“Let the fans not be misled by some people who have been telling lies to the members of the public.
We want to remain in the Super Division and that is why tomorrow (today) we will have a press briefing to explain to some City faithfuls some issues which need to be addressed,” Zulu said.
