ZANACO Football Club assistant coach Dabid Chilufya has hailed his boys for starting their campaign in the CAF Confederations Cup on a positive note.
Speaking after witnessing the bankers dismantle Gambia Armed Forces GAF FC soldiers with a 3-0 bashing in the preliminary fixture played last Saturday at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka, Chilufya said his players played well and deserved to collect the maximum points.
Chilufya however noted that there was need for the team to improve after acquiring more than ten players from various clubs across Africa.
“We have done well but not very much because this is the first game and we have a lot of new players, so we are trying to blend the old and the new. Going forward we are going to do better,” he said.
Chilufya commended former Power Dynamos striker Martin Phiri who scored a brace in his debut appearance for the bankers.
“We started training here with him and we went to Mongu with the national team together then Morocco and when he was given chance to play he showed that he can do well, so I am not surprised by his performance in today’s game,” Chilufya said.
Meanwhile, Zanaco skipper Ziyo Tembo who scored the first goal said the team will not relax despite having started on a positive note.
Tembo said Zanaco will prepare adequately for the return leg fixture to collect a positive result in Gambia to progress to the next round.
And GAF FC coach Ebrima Jatta said failure to create scoring opportunities in the game against Zanaco cost his team.
Jatta said GAF will have to work hard and prepare adequately for the return leg to be played in two weeks’ time.
“Our biggest problem was not scoring goals and obviously that’s what we will try to work on going in the return leg in Gambia,” he said.
