CHIEF Mabumba of the Ushi people in Mansa District of Luapula Province has asked Government through the ministry of Community Development and Social Warfare to counter-check people benefiting from the social cash transfer scheme following reports of malpractice.
Chief Mabumba has also warned that the Ushi chiefdom will not be in support of any person found wanting in this case because such acts were criminal and meant to frustrate Government efforts in fighting poverty.
The Chief said it was not in order that some people were now manipulating the exercise by taking advantage of the vulnerable people in society and he will not allow such a scourge to continue.
The traditional leader said manipulators should be removed if the programme was to yield fruits because desperate people were being charged money to be put on the recipient list.
He appealed to Government to involve the chiefs and village headmen if the registration programme was to move smoothly.
“Some are giving goats and chickens while others are paying K20 for them to be registered, and I will not allow such acts to continue in my chiefdom because they will tarnish the image of Government and I pray that government should move in and remove people behind these illicit activities ,” said chief Mabumba.
Meanwhile, Chief Mabumba implored Mansa Central Member of Parliament Chitalu Chilufya to quickly finish projects that were still underway in his chiefdom especially the roads and clinics.
He said women from Moonga village were facing challenges in movement and that the road leading to his Palace was in a deplorable state and needed a facelift.
The chief who is a retired magistrate said he wanted to improve the infrastructure in the chiefdom though collective effort.
