FOREST Rangers moved to fifth position on the MTN/FAZ Super League table after beating Lusaka Dynamos 1-0 in an early kick-off of the double header played yesterday at Trade Fair grounds in Ndola.

Rodrick Ching’andu’s goal from the spot kick in the 31st  minute was enough for Rangers to collect maximum points against a determined Lusaka Dynamos.

Despite having lost their Week 4 fixture, the Patrick Phiri-led Dynamos started the match on a bright note as midfielder Potipha Zulu’s first shot on target was brilliantly saved by goalie Moonga Ndala in the second minute of the game.

Rangers however stepped up their game and were rewarded when Kobby Chipeta was brought down by the goal keeper in the 18-yard area for a penalty.

Ching’andu stepped up and converted from the spot and gave Rangers the lead before halftime.

Rangers could have doubled the lead in the 60th minute when Chipeta’s shot was saved by Ndala after the striker brilliantly walzed past two Lusaka Dynamos defenders.

Lusaka Dynamos’ chance to level matters came in the 66th minute when Simon Mulenga’s sublime shot on target was deflected for a corner kick.

Lusaka Dynamos’ loss has dropped the side to 17th on the log, with the three points collected from the first three draws.

Meanwhile, Power Dynamos were held to a 1-1 draw by newly promoted Buildcon in the second game of the double header at Trade Fair grounds.

A determined Buildcon began the game on a bright note and were able to find the back of the net in the sixth minute through loaned striker Maisha Chandeo who plays for Congolese giants TP Mazembe.

Buildcon could have doubled the lead in the 22 minute but Maisha’s shot hit the left side of the goal post.

Buildcon were able to find the back of the net in the 36th minute through Bosandja but was unlucky as the clear goal was cancelled for offside.

Power Dynamos leveled the scores seconds before the halftime through striker Fwayo Tembo from the spot kick which was as a result of a handball by a Buildcon defender.

The 1-1 stalemate moves Danny Kabwe’s Power Dynamos to eighth on the league table with six points.
