A 24-YEAR-OLD clinical medical student at Citizen University yesterday appeared before the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court for allegedly possessing obscene photographs and cinematographs contrary to the Laws of Zambia.

It is alleged that Joel Sikaneta on unknown dates but between January 1st 2017 and November 29th 2017 in Lusaka had obscene materials –  photographs and cinematographs –  which tend to corrupt morals.

Sikaneta, who appeared before magistrate Felix Kaoma is believed to have between June and December, 2017 swindled 7 females using 9 fake Facebook accounts opened in different names.

Sikaneta would pretend to be a white man, initiate an intimate relationship with unsuspecting females on Facebook after befriending them and promise to send them money in dollars and buy them cars.

He would begin by sending nude pictures for a white man on pretext that they were his and would later entice women to also send their nude pictures to him.

Sikaneta would thereafter use another account purporting to be a wife to the white man claiming to have discovered conversations and nude pictures on her husband’s Facebook account.

He would then begin demanding for money from victims and threatening to publish nude pictures if they did not comply.

Sikaneta could not take plea as his case required the Director of Public Prosecution’s consent.

He told the court that he had spent 40 days from the time of his arrest and asked if he could be granted bail.

Magistrate Kaoma granted him bail of K10, 000 in his recognisance with two working sureties.

The matter has been adjourned to January 19th 2018 for another mention awaiting the DPP’s instructions.
