THE Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has abolished retention of players by clubs and have replaced it with player contracts to conform to FIFA rules and regulations on transfer and registration of players.

In a circular to all clubs signed by FAZ general secretary Ponga Liwewe date 6th December, 2016, FAZ confirmed the latest development but has maintained affiliation and player registration fees for next season at K100 per club and K50 per player.

“This is to inform you that FAZ, in line with FIFA rules and regulations on transfer and registration of players has decided to do away with the retention of players. This will be replaced by players’ contracts.

“Kindly take note that club affiliation fee remains unchanged at K100 per club while the registration of players remain the same at K50 per player. The administration fee for players who are free or on loan remain at K500 per transfer. However, all transfer fees shall continue to attract 20 percent payable to FAZ on completions of the exercise,” read the circular in part.

Liwewe advised clubs to clear all outstanding fines and fees due to FAZ before the end of the year adding that those clubs which will not have settled their dues by the deadline will not be allowed to affiliate and register players and officials until the outstanding payments are made.

He also said the association had decided to do away with Narsil system of registration with FIFA’s E-connect and that the office of the registrar with the help of people trained in provinces will run seminars on changes to the registration system.

“The registration system this year will change from the Narsil system to FIFA E-connect. The registrar with the help of trained people in provinces will run seminars on changes of the system,

“All the outstanding fines and fees due to FAZ must be paid before or by 31st December, 2016. Clubs failing to pay all outstanding fines and fees will not be allowed to affiliate and register players and officials until outstanding payments are made,” read the circular.

And FAZ has announced that the first transfer window for next season will run from 1st January to 15th March 2017 with the second opening on 1st July and closing on 31 July, 2017.
