PARLIAMENT was yesterday informed that there are no wrangles among the executive members of the Football Association of Zambia.
Minister of Youth, Sport and Child Development Moses Mawere was however quick to mention that Government is aware of the administrative disciplinary actions going on at Football House.
He said when the disciplinary measures were instituted FAZ informed the Government, National Sports Council of Zambia and FIFA as a matter of procedure.
Mawere said the ongoing disciplinary procedures at Football House have no bearing on the country’s football activities and the preparations for hosting the Under 20 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in February 2017.
The Sports minister was responding to Milanzi Member of Parliament Whiteson Banda during the questions for oral answer.
Banda wanted to find out whether the Government is aware that there are wrangles amongst the executive committee members of FAZ and hence adversely affecting the country’s football activities, including preparations for hosting the Under 20 Africa Cup of Nations Tournament in February, 2017; if so, what the source of these wrangles is and what measures the Government has taken to resolve the wrangles.
Mawere instead assured Parliament that the preparations for the hosting of the Under 20 Africa Cup of Nations are on course.
He further explained that the disciplinary procedures at FAZ were instituted to deal with allegations related to financial impropriety in line with the FAZ statutes.
“Government’s position is to allow FAZ to conclude the matter administratively in line with FAZ statutes,” Mawere said.
But Banda further sought Mawere’s clarification if FIFA was not aware about the issues he had raised.
In his explanation, Mawere said FAZ wrote to FIFA who advised the association to take the matter to its (FAZ) council.
Mawere said FIFA is fully aware of the happenings at FAZ.
And FAZ life member, who is Milengi PF member Parliament Mwansa Mbulakulima, wondered why Mawere said there were no wrangles at FAZ when FIFA was also involved and advised that the matter be taken to the council.
