A LOCAL Court in Lusaka heard how a woman who was deserted and later chased by her husband decided to divorce him.

This was heard in Matero Local Court in a case in which Maggie Chishimba of Kabanana compound sued her husband, Peter Chishimba for divorce.

The two got married in 2005 and they have four children.

Maggie told Senior Court Magistrates Miyanda Banda, Pauline Newa and Ronnie Shafwensha at Matero Local Court problems started when they had a third child and that when they had a fourth child Chishimba deserted her.

She explained that she went to Victim Support Unit and that in 2015 they were reconciled but still there was no peace.

‘’In 2016 Chishimba chased me, we came to court and started staying together but still he did not change,’’ said Maggie.

In defence, Chishimba said that he didn’t know the reason he was brought to court and that all he knew was that Maggie took the title deeds for the house.

He explained that he did not have any problems with her except for the issue of the title deeds.

The court said that there was lack of communication because title deeds could not cause a problem but Maggie said Chishimba was deserting her.

The court said there was no trust between the two because Maggie always suspected Chishimba was with other women whenever he went out.

The court granted the couple divorce ordering Chishimba to compensate Maggie K10, 000 with an initial payment of K1000 followed by monthly instalments of K250 and to be paying a maintenance fee for children of K400 per month.

The court directed that household goods acquired together be shared equally.

The house is to be sold and the money shared equally.
