WE have done very well in stabilising the Zambian economy, says Secretary to Cabinet Rowland M’siska.

Dr. Msiska said Zambia’s return to single digit inflation, and the reduced lending rates as well as the steady appreciation of the Kwacha were positive economic indicators confirming that the country was economically stable.

“We have done fantastically well in stabilizing our economy. The inflation has gone down to a single digit while the Kwacha has now stabilised. The lending rates in the country have also reduced,” Dr. Msiska said.

He was speaking during a dinner when Zambia’s diplomatic envoy to Ethiopia, Ambassador Susan Sikaneta hosted a dinner in his honor.

He said even the recently drafted diaspora policy framework was formulated to encourage Zambian diplomats serving in foreign missions to participate in the policy processes of the country.

He said there was great potential to develop Zambia through the participation of those mandated to represent the country in outside missions.

He explained that Zambians living abroad should begin to take keen interest in working with organisations which could directly or indirectly benefit the country.

“There are a lot of untapped resources out there that can develop the country through the participation of diplomats. I also urge you Zambians living abroad to take keen interest in working with strategic agencies outside Zambia,” Dr. Msiska said.

According to a statement issued by the first secretary for press and tourism at Zambia’s embassy in Ethiopia, Inutu Mwanza, those who attended the dinner included Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary Lombe Chalwe, Transport and Communications Permanent Secretary Misheck Lungu, Counselor Administration at the Zambian Mission in Ethiopia Sam Mujuda, Embassy staff and Zambians living in Ethiopia.

She explained that Dr. Msiska was in Ethiopia for talks with the Ambassador to explain Government policies for foreign missions and to understand challenges experienced in the foreign missions.
