Jehovah’s Witnesses set for conventions

JEHOVAH’s Witnesses will begin a series of three-day annual conventions at 172 location throughout the country with the theme “Don’t Give Up!” it has been announced.

Public Information Officer Samson Nyendwa said the conventions will run from 14th July, 2017 and will continue through to 29th September 2017 in 16 different languages

Mr Nyendwa said languages will include Bemba, Nyanja, Lozi, Tonga, Kaonde, Nsenga, Namwanga, Lenje, Lamba, Mambwe-Lungu, Lunda, Tumbuka, Luvale, English, Zambian sign language and Chinese.

Mr Nyendwa said the admission to each event is free and no collections will be taken, however, nearly 13 million persons worldwide and 80,000 in Lusaka attended last year’s conventions.

He said one segment of a three-part feature film entitled “Remember the Wife of Lot” will also be shown each afternoon.

 “Our convention this year will benefit both Witnesses and non-Witnesses because it promises to empower individuals not only to keep enduring, but also to cope with challenges productively and it will also show how we can enjoy a happy life now and in the past years, the Witnesses have been participating in a global campaign to personally invite the general public to attend,” said Mr Nyendwa.

The 30 conventions in Lusaka will be held at Lusaka Assembly Hall – Kamloops Road, Kalingalinga, Chawama and Chingwere Assembly Halls in Bemba, Nyanja, English, Zambian sign language and Chinese.

He said the challenges in life can rob peace and even cause some to think about giving up, hence this year’s convention of Jehovah’s Witnesses will show how someone can enjoy a happy life now and a bright outlook for the future.

“We hope to have an even larger audience this year.” The programme is divided into 52 parts and will be presented in a variety of formats, including brief discourses, interviews, and short videos.
