KAOMA district hospital in Western Province is operating without a mortuary and members of public have been advised to bury their relatives immediately to avoid decomposing.

However, members of the public have been told to bury their dead immediately they passed away, until further notice.

According to the hospital notice, “the hospital management regrets to inform the general public that the district hospital mortuary has broken down.

The management therefore advises members of the public to make arrangements to bury their deceased relatives as soon as possible should any deaths occur in the wards, while the mortuary is undergoing repairs.

Consequently no brought in dead (BID) cases will be received until further notice.

Management therefore regrets the inconvenience this development may cause,” the notice reads.

And Kaoma district commissioner Kennedy Mubanga told the Daily Nation the Government had immediately assessed the situation and that experts were doing everything possible to ensure the mortuary was back to normal.

Mr Mubanga said his office was aware of the challenge and efforts being made to ensure mortuary operations resumed soon.

“The Government is concerned with the welfare of its people and therefore it will make everything possible to address the challenges because the district cannot go without proper mortuary services at the hospital.”
