LUWOMBWA residents in Chitambo have bemoaned lack of clean and safe water for consumption in the area.
Luwombwa Ward councillor Evans Sabe told the Daily Nation in an interview that people in the area had never enjoyed clean and safe water supply.
Mr. Sabe said the area was still backward regarding water reticulation system. He said residents only depended on water for consumption from the crocodile-infested Luwombwa river and streams that dried up in summer.
“As residents of Luwombwa ward, we have a big challenge in accessing clean and safe water for use. The only source of water is the Luwombwa river, which is contaminated and streams that normally go dry at some point. The water is not safe for human consumption because the commodity is not treated,” Mr. Sabe said.
He said there was need for government to embark on water schemes and sinking boreholes in a bid to improve water supply system in the area.
Mr. Sabe has since appealed to government to look into the matter with the seriousness it deserved so as to improve access to safe and clean water for people in Luwombwa ward.
Meanwhile, a civic leader in Mkushi has partnered with stakeholders in the community to build a police post in the area.
In an interview with the Daily Nation, Patriot Front Upper Lunsemfwa ward councillor Thomas Mukoso said the community in the area was in dire need of the police post due to increase in crime rate and other illegal activities.
“So far the community has moulded about 30, 000 bricks for the project. We are still mobilising as many people as possible to participate so that the project becomes a practical reality.
“We cannot always depend on government to do everything for us because it has a lot of responsibilities; this is why we came up with this initiative,” Mr Mukoso said.
Mr. Mukoso said this member of Parliament Doreen Mwape has been approached over the project and she has pledged to contribute cement towards construction of the police post.
