400 HOUSES IN KITWE’S SALAMANO ELECTRIFIED

MORE than 400 households in Salamano area of Chimwemwe constituency in Kitwe will be connected to the national grid in the next two months. This follows the signing of a K2.2 million contract between the Rural Electrification Authority (REA) and RETRO International Zambia. Chimwemwe Member of Parliament (MP) Allen Banda said connecting the more than 400 households in Salama no area was the beginning of fulfilling one of his campaign promises of connecting the whole constituency to the national grid.

Mr Banda said he was grateful to REA for the project and urged the people of Salamano area to guard the gesture jealously because it would help improve their lives “One of the promises I made during campaigns was to ensure that the whole Chimwemwe constituency is connected to the national grid.

“I am happy to inform you my fellow Chimwemwe residents that this project has since started with Salamano area where the REA is set to connect over 400 households to the national grid in the next two months,’’ Mr Banda said Mr Banda said the project would come with a lot of benefits not only for the people of Salamano but the entire Chimwemwe constituency which would include jobs for youths during the execution of the contract “As your MP, I will soon be engaging both REA and RETRO International Zambia on the need to give priority to the people of Chimwemwe constituency in terms of jobs during the works at the project The project would also provide opportunities for small business entrepreneurs within Salamano and the surrounding areas to venture into more income generating activities such as Chicken rearing , fabricating and welding and many other businesses that require electricity to run ,’’ he said He added,’’ the project will also give an opportunity to the school going children to be ex[1]posed to ICT provided we help them in acquiring computers which we will do.”

 Mr Banda said he wouldremain humble to the residents of Chimwemwe constituency as he strive to fulfil his campaign promises in his small and humble way “As a businessman and politician, I understood the importance of being humble, generous, listening to advice and respecting any individual regardless of his status in society. This is why even after being elected MP, I will remain humble Mr Banda is supporting more than 60 vulnerable school going children and has embarked on various empowerment initiatives for women and youths.
