THE Lusaka City Council has purchased eight tipper dump trucks worth K 5.6 million to help with garbage collection in the city.
Lusaka Mayor Wilson Kalumba said the council was determined to invest in other types of equipment and trucks to help the workload and carry out their work more efficiently.
Mr Kalumba said the local authority decided to purchase the trucks because it lacked the necessary equipment.
The civic leader said this in Lusaka yesterday during the launch of the trucks and he expressed hope that the move would help keep the city clean and healthy.
“The Lusaka City Council has purchased eight tipper trucks valued at K 5.6 million which will help in garbage collection and keep our city clean.
The council is determined to invest in other types of equipment which will ease our work and discharge our work efficiently,” he said.
Mr Kalumba urged residents to ensure that they pay their garbage fees through agreed terms.
He said the issue of waste management should involve everyone at an individual level if it was to be properly handled.
The event was attended by Lusaka Town Clerk Alex Mwansa and other LCC officials and staff members.
