Current leadership wrangles in MMD are worrying and should be quickly resolved in order for the party help to offer checks and balances to the Patriotic Front (PF) government, says UPND president Hakainde Hichilema.

Commenting on the continued leadership wrangles in the former ruling party, Mr. Hichilema said the deepening problems in MMD were saddening and a hindrance to the growth of . in the country.

Mr. Hichilema said that he was aware of the PF government’s intention to run a one party state, but warned, that would not happen in Zambia.

“We are aware about the PF planting moles in various opposition political parties to destabilize their leadership because they want to run a one party state. We are also aware that the PF government is happy about the situation in the MMD and they are looking forward for more of such in the opposition in order to have total control of power through Parliament and other institutions of governance,” he said.

He said that no well meaning Zambian believing in the rule of law and promotion of democracy should celebrate the misfortunes of the MMD, adding that the country needed a strong opposition movement to stop the undemocratic tendencies of the PF.

Mr. Hichilema said that the rate at which the PF was moving and abusing the rule of law, there was need for the opposition to remain united and strong.

“We need to help them resolve their problems. The MMD has no choice but to quickly sit down and resolve these problems because there is a big vacuum in the political realms of the country,” he said.

He  said that there was nothing new the PF government would bring to the country apart from the arrogance and  dictatorship.

He said remaining silent now under President Sata’s leadership would mean sentencing Zambians to high levels of poverty, underdevelopment and diseases.

“There are so many illegal things happening in this country under President Sata’s supervision which if left unchecked, this country will go into oblivion. And that is why I am saying that Zambians should help the MMD get out of its leadership problems in order to have a strong opposition movement to offer checks and balance to the PF regime,” he said.

Mr. Hichilema said that the PF was a brutal regime which should not be allowed to continue with its cruelty against  its citizenry.
