PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu has warned court judges against professional misconduct and urged them to always carry out their duties for the benefit of Zambians.
And the Head of State said he has received information that some disgruntled court judges were planning to cause some acrimony in the country by emulating the Kenyan judges who nullified the Presidential elections.
President Lungu said this yesterday upon arrival at Solwezi Airport in North-Western Province where he went to officially open the Patriotic Front (PF) provincial conference at which elections will also be held today.
“I have heard that some judges were saying let us emulate the Kenyan Judges who were brave.
“Some of you want to be adventurous, but let me warn you; don’t be adventurous. Don’t think I am intimidating you, I am just warning you as the English saying goes Forwarned is forearmed,” President Lungu said.
President Lungu said it was dangerous for the Zambian judiciary to emulate their Kenyan counterparts who had no interest for their country.
He reiterated that the judiciary should do their work for the interest of the citizens adding that the judges should learn from what was currently happening in Kenya.
President Lungu vowed to protect the country from all sorts of actions that had potential to put the country on fire.
President Lungu said he will not allow Zambia to lose peace for the sake of judges emulating their Kenya counterpart.
And the Head of state also said the PF was the only democratic party in the country which as it has been electing its leaders at the end of each and every term of office.
He said some political leaders have been clinging on to power even after losing elections five time.
And Third Revolution Party leader Enock Tonga says there is no doubt that disgruntled politicians have infiltrated the judiciary to disturb the peace the country is enjoying and therefore the sound signal by the Head of State warning Court judges was timely.
Mr Tonga said President Edgar Lungu was the Head of State and that he was concerned about the peace of Zambia, noting that people wanted to be in power using force without realizing the pain they could cause the Zambian people.
He said for the Head of State to have hinted that meant that there were people who wanted to interfere in the operation of the Judiciary but
We can understand why he has issued such a statement because people can see where Kenya is today and because he cares, he wants to ensure the people of Zambia are living in peace,” he said.
