By Oscar Malipenga

CALLS by former vice President Enock Kavindele to establish a commission of inquiry to investigate circumstances that led to Michael Chilufya Sata’s death is flawed in itself, his son Mulenga Sata has said.

Below is the conversation with the former minister.

[11/2, 15:50] Mulenga Sata: The reasoning behind the demand for a commission is flawed in itself. All politicians have ambitions. EK himself harboured such ambitions in the UNIP government and I’m sure these ambitions carried over to the MMD government when he was vice president under Mwanawasa. Are we to start speculating about Mr Mwanawasa’s death.

[11/2, 15:58] Mulenga Sata: If Kavindele is not aware the current head of state President Edgar Lungu was the acting president at the time of Mr Sata’s absence and ultimate demise. As such he is fully aware of the condition of Mr Sata at that time and the circumstances leading to his death. The Office of the President (Intelligence) were also fully aware of the president’s condition. Reference to Donald Trump’s release of classified documents relating to JFK’s assassination is 30 years after the fact as provided for by the US constitution. As such this reference is misleading and malicious at worst. Donald Trump did not have a choice about the matter.

[11/2, 16:01] Oscar Malipenga: So what is your position on whether or not an inquiry should be set up?

[11/2, 16:07] Mulenga Sata: I have no position. Presidents are the property of the state. The family does not even get to pick where a dead president’s body is put to rest. I find EK’s remarks unfortunate. If he was sincere there was nothing to stop him from communicating directly with the Office of the President, Cabinet Office and indeed the head of state President EC Lungu as opposed to looking for headlines with this supposed exclusive scoop.

[11/2, 16:08] Mulenga Sata: Please include all my remarks. Your paper has a habit of putting stories out of context.
