KASEMPA district agriculture coordinator (DACO) Joseph Masuwa has called on the Meteorological Department in the district to start sensitizing farmers on the rainfall pattern. Speaking during a Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) meeting aimed at discussing the district position on disaster management ahead of the 2016/2017 rain season, Mr. Masuwa said there was need for improved information dissemination on the rain patterns especially that the world was grappling with the issue of climate change. He said it was important that farmers were sensitized on issues of climate change because it affected the rain
patterns. “Many times our farmers are left out when it comes to information flow. But we forget that these are key stakeholders in the development of not just the district but the entire nation,” he said. Mr Masuwa also emphasised on the need to continue updating and teaching farmers on various farming methods if their farming activities were to improve. He said there was need to introduce more farming
methods in the district. He also implored farmers in the district to take advantage of the Government departments in the area and get more knowledge on how they could prevent natural disasters.
