SENIOR Chief Mukumbi’s area in Kalumbila district has been cut off from rest of the district due to the bad road which has been washed away by the rains.

The road, from Mukumbi turn-off along the M8 road to Mangala, is in a state of disrepair due to heavy rains being experienced which has left people unable to access services from the Boma.

One of the drivers Enock Kapalu whose small truck laden with stock feed was found stuck, appealed to relevant authorities to quickly work on the road so that there was free flow of traffic.

“There is no other road that we can use apart from this one and as situation stands, no vehicle can pass through,” Mr Kapalu said.

Meanwhile, Kalumbila district commissioner Robinson Kalota, who inspected the road in the company of Kalumbila District Council chairman Olix Kakwata, acknowledged that the road was in a deplorable state.

He however assured the people in the area that Government was doing everything possible to control the situation.

He said that the district administration had mobilised fuel from Lumwana mine, two tipper trucks, a frontend loader and a grader to quickly work on the road.

“So people should not panic but remain calm because in less than two weeks’ time, all the bad spots will be worked on,” he said.
