HELLEN Mwale has bounced back as MISA Zambia chairperson after trouncing her challenger, Wilson Mpondamali in an election preceded by an acrimonious annual general meeting.
Ms Mwale garnered 106 votes against Mr Mpondamali’s 33 while the position of vice-chairperson was scooped by Hyde Hagunta who got 103 against 34 votes for Ms Besa Katongo from Solwezi.
Others elected to the National Governing Council include Millennium Radio’s Martin Akande.
Mr Akande, who is also Millennium Radio news editor went unopposed along with two others, Father Barnabas Simatende from Liseli Radio and Veronica Mwaba.
The meeting also adopted the auditor’s report and agreed to reappoint AMG Global Accountants who have been MISA auditors since 2011.
An earlier motion to uphold the former National Governing Council decision to suspend Mr Mpondamali was upheld by the meeting. Mr Mpondamali was however free to contest elections because he was still a member of MISA.
Ms Mwale in her chairman’s report cautioned members to desist from being partisan and to maintain professionalism.
Ms Mwale said the institution deserved to be regarded with respect and this was only possible if members exhibited professionalism in their conduct and work.
