People have ceaselessly complained of negligence and bad attitude of some of our nurses and for sure I experienced and saw it last Friday.
Imagine my sister gave birth around 07.00hrs but there was a complication and needed to be referred to UTH.
But by 19.00 hours the nurses were still waiting for the consultant to give a final say.
And because of bad attitude they couldn’t pay attention to my sister who kept telling them that she was feeling weak.
The nurses were only too eager to discharge her.
It was at this point that my mother forced her way into the labour ward because the nurses and maids had initially refused her entry.
My mother stormed the maternity ward around 14.00hrs and looked for my sister only to find her on a floor and looking very weak with a lot of blood on the mattress. Obviously she had been bleeding all this time.
My mum tried to inform the nurses but she was shouted at, and around 16.00hrs that was when a midwife realized that the situation was critical.
I also entered the same ward around 17.00 hours and found my sister in the same situation and looking extremely pale.
The nurses and a doctor who were there said they were waiting for a consultant to refer her to UTH.
As if that was not bad enough there was no blood to give my sister who had bled profusely after she gave birth.
I am so sad and heartbroken to inform the nation that my sister died because of sheer negligence and mismanagement of this hospital.
Midwifes and nurses should change their attitude towards patients who are at their mercy and work effectively and productively as trained people.
