NEVERS Mumba should tone down and re-examine the statements he has been issuing in the media as it is unbelievable that a man of God can label the ruling party as immoral and ungodly, says Bishops Council of Zambia (BCZ) spokesperson Fred Chingole.

Mr Chingole said that it was disappointing to see an acclaimed man of God issue derogatory statements in the media against the ruling party.

He said in an interview with the Daily Nation that men of God were supposed to provide checks and balances to Government.

Mr Chingole reiterated that the former republican vice President should tone down and re-examine the statements he had recently been issuing in the media.

He wondered how an acclaimed man of God could publicly label the party in power as ‘immoral and ungodly’.

Mr Chingole explained that it was the duty of the church to advise Government where it was not performing according to expectations and not to insult the leaders.

“We have been looking up to Dr Mumba, but it’s really disappointing that he has been openly castigating the ruling party. How can he call the Patriotic Front (PF) government immoral and ungodly? A man of God is not supposed to be judgmental” he said.

Mr Chingole said that Dr Mumba should be able to balance between his Christian faith and political life if he was going to remain a respectable leader.

He noted that Dr Mumba who is former Zambian ambassador to Canada had held high political offices but that as a clergyman he should consider himself a man of God first before anything else.

Mr Chingole advised the church to offer constructive criticism where it was necessary and gratitude where it was due.

Dr Mumba is reported to have labeled the PF government as being ‘immoral and ungodly’, in the Mast Newspaper dated 28th May, 2017.
