WITHOUT peace and stability it is not possible for a country to develop and prosper, says Defence Minister Davies Chama.
Mr Chama said a solid foundation for peace and stability was an essential pre-requisite for the promotion of economic growth.
Speaking at the official opening of the 21st Command and staff course for defence personnel in Lusaka at defence college yesterday, Mr Chama said the inclusion of allied student officers from sister defence forces was a clear manifestation of commitment to develop, foster and sustain cooperation among defence forces.
Mr Chama reminded students that the course was challenging and required hard work and perseverance to meet the challenges and requirements.
Mr Chama said the Defence College had so far successfully produced quality officers.
He said it was the vision of the college to continue producing quality officers capable of meeting emerging security challenges posed by the global environment.
He urged the officers that the course they had embarked on intends to produce high caliber officers who would assume high levels of command and staff appointments.
“The syllabus is tailored to International standards and compares favourably with any command and staff college worldwide.
“As you may be aware the college had been in existence for 22 years and you are bound to encounter some difficulties, but will ensure that the college runs smoothly without any hitches,” said Mr Chama.
And Mr Chama is optimistic that officers would endure and find it worthwhile at the end of the course.
Mr Chama said the college was the highest institution of military learning for defence force in the country.
