PEACE makers have donated assorted food stuffs to the aged, the visually impaired and underprivileged people in Lusaka West Namalombwe area as a way of celebrating Easter.
And leader of the Peace Makers Peter Kunda said he had a heart for the aged and underprivileged in society who he said lacked care from family members and society as a whole.
He said he had passion for the poor and he would ensure that society treated the elderly with love, compassion and kindness, and urged the Zambians not to abuse elderly citizens and stop labelling them as witches and wizards.
Mr Kunda said he thought of giving to the needy during this Easter period particularly on the resurrection day as a way of uplifting the welfare of the vulnerable in community.
He called on other well-wishers to partner with Government to ensure that more Zambians were provided with care and have access to food and decent shelter. “The reason we, Peace Makers, are making this donation is because we care for the poor, and this Easter period, we thought of giving back to the needy as a way of celebrating the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ,” said Mr Kunda.
He said President Lungu was committed to improving the livelihood of the poor in Lusaka Province and across the country.
Mr Kunda, who is a body builder, said people had a wrong perception about them, hence they wanted to make a difference by making sure that everyone led a decent life and had food on their tables.
Items donated included, bags of mealie meal, cooking oil, salt, kapenta, chitenge wrappers among other things which were valued at K 8,000.
Meanwhile, Namalombwe ward councilor Maureen Mwewa said she was humbled and expressed gratitude for the gesture shown by the Peace Makers for helping the underprivileged in society especially the women.
Ms Mwewa said her ward being in a rural setup, most people lacked care and had no access to social amenities particularly the aged, hence it was her duty to ensure that the needy were taken good care of.
“We need to thank the Peace Makers for the continuous charitable work they are doing to the people in different communities, and for making such a huge donation to the people in my ward during this Easter period.
“I am appealing to other well-wishers to come on board and help out our mothers and fathers who are in need of food, clothes and shelter among other things,” said Ms. Mwewa.
