PROPOSAL to form an alliance between MMD and PF came openly from the top leadership and was worked on at secretary general level before the convention approved.

Arising from President Lungu’s public pronouncement, MMD ended up going to a convention where it was resolved to work with PF and support President Lungu, MMD national secretary Raphael Nakacinda has clarified.

Mr Nakacinda also clarified that MMD and PF were still in a working alliance in all the provinces as agreed upon at the national convention last year.

Mr Nakacinda said as far as MMD was concerned it was in an alliance with the PF.

The national secretary was reacting to a statement issued by MMD Eastern Province Information and Publicity Secretary Zephaniah Kaleya who told the Daily Nation that MMD had suspended its alliance with PF in the province.

Mr Nakacinda explained that it was resolved by the national executive committee at a convention that MMD goes to bed with PF.

“We prepared a bed together with the PF and we will sleep in that bed together whatever difficulties we may find along the way I think there is enough wisdom and logic among the leaders of both PF and MMD to resolve.

“How can a province suspend an alliance outside the leadership of the party? That is anarchy isn’t it? Why should we support that?” asked Mr Nakacinda.

He said there was no decision that was made by an individual in MMD.

“Our position as MMD is that there are no decisions that are made in MMD by individuals. All decisions are made in a democratic manner through the collective wisdom in this case in between conventions through the collective wisdom of the national executive committee or indeed if there was need to consult beyond the national executive committee we have what we call policy conferences that is where decisions will made especially decisions that were arrived at the convention.

“For me as national secretary, I am calling upon members across the country to cease fire and I want to repeat cease fire! There is no need to go sweat for sweat I think there is need for us to apply ourselves in view of the bigger picture ahead of us on how will resolves issues of our working relationship with the PF,” he said.

Mr Nakacinda said he was confident that through their engagement especially at the highest level of leadership they would be able to come up with amicable way to have all the misunderstandings or indeed misconstrued positions clarified so that both PF and MMD could work in a harmonious manner and continue to strengthen the two institutions.
