ZAMBIA Police have acquired services of a more advanced forklift to help them lift the printing press allegedly belonging to the defunct Post Newspaper in liquidation from former company owners Fred M’membe at his Nangwenya road residence.
This was after the service failed to dismantle and lift the heavy duty equipment that was discovered hidden in the garage of plot number 7345, Nangwenya road, Lusaka, following a search warrant issued by the Magistrates Court. Police were yesterday seen trying to lift the huge printing equipment suspected to have been printing the Mast newspaper, a publication owned by Mutinta M’membe, wife to the former Post proprietor.
Meanwhile, Zesco is expected to visit the scene today to
ascertain on whether the
premises was properly connected to the grid with the kind of heavy equipment in use at the residence.
Sources have indicated to the Daily Nation that the power utility were concerned with the enormousness of the printing equipment discovered in use at a the residence which could have affected power supply in the area.
And the liquidator of the Post Newspap, Lewis Mosho, has refuted claims by some sections of the media that his office was in charge of the raid at Nangwenya road because the undertaking was as a result of a court order.
This followed growing speculation that Mr Mosho had raided the M’membe residence in the company of the police.
Post Newspaper in Liquidation operations manager Robert Chabinga said they were not in charge of whatever activities were taking place at the M’membe’s house, and that false allegations that his office was tracking Mast reporters was malicious and meant to build public sympathy for the defunct newspaper owners. Mr Chabinga said they had already laid their complaints before the appropriate authorities and it was not their responsibility to follow up a court order.
“ “And as liquidator, there is no way we can be following workers. Those are just employees and have no stake in our seeking Mr M’membe to hand over Post Newspaper properties. That is between the liquidator and the former owners, not employees,” he said.
