Dear Editor, I write to be part of the few Zambians who have added a voice towards the good, honourable and true leadership His Excellency Edgar Lungu has shown by cutting his salary by half. It’s very amazing that an act which should have been a headline on all the publications and social media has been looked down and few Zambians seem to care.

I was expecting a lot of appreciation from every Zambian citizen but unfortunately that is not the case. This behaviour is not only evil but very wicked especially for our generation. What kind of a people are we who cannot appreciate the good deeds of their own President? What the President did by cutting his salary is something every citizen regardless of our political affiliation should have embraced and talked about.

How many politicians who have boasted of having a lot of money, yet are failing to give back to the poor? Elections are gone, show me a politician who has come and talked to the poor to assure them that things will be better…they are all hiding and we do not know why . Others are like carnivorous animals waiting for the down fall of their friend who is now the President, yet they say we are Christians and Zambia is a Christian nation.

We have leaders in the civil society sector running very big NGOs, directors of big companies; how many have come out to appreciate what the President has done. Even those who purport and pretend to be the voice to the voiceless, have not even tried one percent of what the president has done. They are all quiet. One great Man of God in the land Pastor Choolwe says and I quote; “Our own President cuts his salary by half and foregoes his retirement house —- the whole Zambia is business as usual and quiet. “It is either we are a nation of hypocrites or we have a long way to go before we learn to celebrate our own in this land.

Or we have become so politicised that genuine voices are afraid of applauding righteous or right acts. “Oh Zambia, are you still that land that celebrates the dead and vilifies the living? Great people are grateful people.” He continues and says, “It is simply a good example.

If we don’t appreciate it now, generations coming will see no use in good deeds. “So should he do it for praises? Absolutely not. But our affirmations of what is good help with reinforcement.” Oooh Zambia…….I cry for you..!!!! Fred Nkhuwa
