THE Police should protect Patriotic Front members in Kalomo and the rest of Southern Province against suspected UPND thugs from intimidation and harassment, says Patriotic Front deputy spokesperson Frank Bwalya.

Mr Bwalya said the PF was taken back with the undemocratic behaviour of intimidation and harassment of their members by UPND thugs and called for a stop to such acts.

He called on the police to take charge of the situation in Kalomo and protect all citizens against such barbaric and undemocratic behaviour

Mr Bwalya said people had realised that the PF meant well and was running anall-inclusive government determined to take development all over the country and even to areas where they had received the least votes.

In an interview with Daily Nation yesterday, Mr Bwalya said prior and after the 2016 general elections, most PF members and sympathisers had fallen victim to attacks and intimidation by the UPND in their strongholds.

He said it was regrettable that the UPND had resorted to such kind of politics in a multiparty dispensation and after having realised that the PF was rapidly gaining political ground on the grassroots.

“The barbaric behaviour by UPND thugs of intimidating and harassing Patriotic Front members in Kalomo should come to a stop. This is because the UPND has realised that their political fortunes are rapidly dwindling in their perceived strongholds.

“I would like to urge the police to take charge of the situation and protect all citizens, it is unfortunate that such kind of politics are going on in a democratic and multiparty dispensation,” he said.

Mr Bwalya challenged the UPND top leadership to condemn and direct their members to stop such acts before the long arm of the law caught up with them.

It is alleged that UPND cadres in Kalomo have been harassing and intimidating PF members, making them fail to carry out party activities.
