THE Road Development Agency (RDA) has started rehabilitation works on the Mundanya Bridge in Manyinga district which was on the verge of collapsing.
The bridge developed a deep hole due to heavy rains which threatened to render it too risky to use.
Manyinga district commissioner Queen Manela confirmed the development with the Daily Nation in an interview.
She said the agency had already mobilised materials and were on site, adding that fears to cross the bridge will soon be a thing of a past.
‘’Yes I can confirm that RDA officers have moved on site and rehabilitation works have started,” she said.
She said government was concerned with the state in which the bridge was especially that it connected Chavuma, Zambezi and Kabompo districts to the rest of the province.
“If we leave it out like that and collapses, it means the three districts will be completely cut off. That is why RDA has quickly mobilised itself to work on it,” she explained.
And Ms Manela said the commencement of the rehabilitation works demonstrated government’s commitment in accelerating development in all parts of Zambia.
She said the Patriotic Front government under the leadership of President Edgar Lungu was in a hurry and committed to deliver development even in areas where it did not receive any single vote.
“Manyinga district is a testimony to that, there is a lot of development in the district which has never been witnessed before. And this has made people happy,” she said.
