….HH over obsessed with power and now detraction lies ahead of him.

By Aaron Chiyanzo

THE opposition UPND is headed for oblivion  unless it replaces its leader, Hakainde Hichilema, who is obsessed with power and now self destruction lies ahead of him, 3rd Liberation Movement (3rd LM) president Enoch Tonga has charged.

And Mr Tonga has called on UPND members to seriously think about fielding new blood at the helm of the party as it desperately needs new leadership.

He said in an interview with the Daily Nation that UPND was now headed for oblivion because the man at the helm of the party was over obsessed with power.

Mr Tonga was reacting to Mr Hichilema’s lamentations that he would never stop fighting over the 2016 Presidential election to be heard regardless of how long it would take.

He reiterated that the UPND leader’s appetite for presidency had become a liability to the nation and that Zambians were likely to denounce the UPND.

Mr Tonga pointed out that the Zambians were watching and would never tolerate anything that threatened the peace and stability of the country.

He observed that Mr Hichilema was now driven by ego and that he wanted to be in State House at all cost.

Mr Tonga charged that Mr Hichilema was crying over spelt milk by not putting the Presidential petition behind and the opposition UPND was now headed for oblivion.

“When people behave like this, destruction is ahead of them. The man is too obsessed with power, those are the indications of a man driven with ego. At all cost he wants to be in State House, at all cost he wants to be President.

“That is a wrong route, he has no plans or strategy to get into State House. I can assure you, he is headed for self destruction and UPND headed for oblivion,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mr Tonga advised members of the opposition to seriously consider bringing in a new leadership if the party was to become relevant again, with a hope of forming government in future.

He explained that Mr Hichilema was losing the favour of the people at a rapid rate because his behaviour had shown that it was not their well-being he had been fighting for.

Mr Tonga wondered how an individual could hold on to power for over 15 years when UPND had a very large membership in the country.

He questioned whether there was really no one else from the large membership of the party with leadership potential to take over from Mr Hichilema.

Mr Tonga challenged senior members of the UPND to start pushing for a change of leadership if indeed Mr Hichilema was not the only one fit to be at the helm of the party.
