RESIDENTS of Lusaka’s high density areas have questioned the criteria being used by the power utility company Zesco when it comes to load shedding in the city.
Several residents complained that some low destiny areas such as Kabulonga, Woodlands and Emmasdale, among others, were hardly load shedded and continued with their businesses as usual.
Ms Edina Kababula, a hair dresser of Kamwala area, said her business has faced setbacks due to the unnecessary load shedding being experienced for prolonged hours.
Ms Kababula said the development had badly affected her business due to power disruptions and was no longer making a profit. Mr Nickel Chandalala, a welder of Kalingalinga, said the current load shedding being experienced has become difficult to meet the customers’ demands due to excessive load shedding.
“We are very sad and concerned in the manner the load shedding is being done. In areas like Kabulonga and Woodlands there is no load shedding. Is it because we live in compounds? We are appealing to Zesco to also reduce the hours in other residential areas because our business are very much affected,” he said.
Another concerned resident Angle Chella, a barber from Mandevu, appealed to Zesco to ensure that power was supplied to the area for the well-being of the people.
