By GRACE CHAILE LESOETSA

NEWLY appointed Power Dynamos coach Kelvin Kaindu has been tasked to ensure the team finishes in top three of the 2018 FAZ Super Division League.

And former FAZ executive committee member Happy Munkondya is the new club secretary.

During the unveiling ceremony held yesterday at Copperbelt Energy Corporation (CEC) offices in Kitwe, Club chairman Bbenkele Haachitwe directed the technical bench to bring back the glory days at Arthur Davis Stadium by ensuring the team is among the top three finishers this season.

“Our target should be to finish among the top three. We have to retain the status of Kitwe giants we are known of and so the technical bench must work hard to achieve it,” Haachitwe said.

Kaindu 40, said he would work hard to ensure Power qualifies for Continental competition.

He said he was capable of handling the pressure at Arthur Davis and called for unit in the club.

“Yes, Power hasn’t being in its best form in the last two years, they finished sixth last season which was not good. We need to bring back that cohesion in the team and fight for a top two finish, which is very possible,” he said.

The Former Zanaco assistant coach emphasised that he had the capacity to coach a Zambian team despite starting his career in Zimbabwe.

He was excited to return to his native land and compete against Mumamba Numba, Tenant Chilumba and Patrick Phiri.

“Coaching in a foreign land and being able to make it shows that I have the pedigree to mentor Power Dynamos.  There maybe an argument that I don’t know most Zambian players, but my whole playing career was in Zambia and was assistant Zanaco coach.  There isn’t much difference between Zambia and Zimbabwean football,” he said.

Kaindu who replaces Dan Kabwe and with a UEFA B licence has coached Zimbabwean teams Triangle United, Highlanders and How Mine.

Meanwhile, Munkondya said concretising club licencing was of prime importance.

“I came to learn that we needed to concretise the aspect of club licensing. Club licensing has come to stay and there is no two ways about it, because without it we can’t play in Super League, so it’s of prime importance to me,” he said.

He pledged to improve the club revenue and that was only possible if the team improves its performance by ensuring it finishes in top three.

He was confident the Kaindu-led technical bench would live up to the expectations of club management and fans.

“We need to work on one weakness, that is Power starts very well but its performance dwindles midway of the season. The technical bench must ensure we start and end well,” Munkondya noted. The six times Super League champions finished sixth last season with 62 points.
