By FRANK NYAMBE

A LUSAKA man admitted injuring his wife when he pushed her after she pulled his manhood which she wanted to cut off.

Namakando Sitali, 29, of Garden House compound was testifying in a case in which his wife, Elizabeth Phiri, 23, sued him for divorce after separating since December 25, 2017.

The two got married in 2016 and have one child.

Phiri told Senior Court Magistrates Abbyshine Michelo and Esther Mulomba at Kanyama Local Court that she just lived well in marriage for only three months because she discovered that Sitali had impregnated another woman who started phoning her to inform her about the pregnancy.

She explained that Sitali started beating her when she asked about the woman and would leave her hungry.

Phiri added that Sitali was sending his friends to watch television until 23 hours when he is at work.

Phiri further said that the other time Sitali beat her and she became unconscious upon asking him where he spent a night out.

In defence, Sitali denied beating Phiri but said that he pushed her and injured herself when she pulled his manhood.

He claimed she wanted to cut at his manhood at that time and even she locked him outside the house for coming late.

She explained that Phiri started drinking beer and would sleep with clothes adding she warned him that he will find her sleeping with one of his friends.

Sitali denied sending his friends home to watch television saying he heard about it in court.

Sitali added that there was a man who phoned him and said Phiri is carrying his child. Sitali said that Phiri did not inform him that she had sores on her private part.

The court said that Sitali and Phiri were counter attacking each other because Phiri was accused by Sitali of having impregnated another woman.

The court granted divorce without compensation but Sitali was ordered to be paying child maintenance fee of K600 per month. Household goods acquired together would be shared equally, according the court.
