THE people of Southern Province cannot be given top Patriotic Front) PF positions because it’s difficult to trust them, says Lovemore Kanyama, 2011 PF Siavonga constituency parliamentary candidate.

Mr Kanyama, who is also Siavonga District Commissionrer said it was pointless to work with people who had repeatedly refused to work with the Patriotic Front and President Edgar Lungu for obvious reasons.

“It’s not just giving positions. Loyalty is important at both party and government level.”

He said this in a statement issued to Daily Nation yesterday.

“Let’s show commitment, support and loyalty to the ruling party and government. Let’s work hard and embrace the government of the day.

Appointments come through hard work, commitment, support and loyalty to the president,” he said.

Mr Kanyama said he had refused to subscribe to suggestions by some sections of society that the people of Southern province could only support PF if they were given top senior government portfolios.

“How can President Lungu appoint someone who tomorrow will be giving sensitive government information to the opposition? Loyalty and commitment are cardinal in any institution, even at family level it’s still the same.  There are few southerners with both legs in PF especially those living in southern province. Most pretend to be PF but their loyalty is to the opposition I witnessed it. Some Southerners were getting PF campaign materials and later burning or surrendering them to the UPND leadership,” he explained. Mr Kanyama also recalled how he got no vote at a polling station which had two PF polling agents during the 2011 election.

“In 2011, I was PF Siavonga constituency parliamentary candidate. But our PF polling agents wouldn’t support or even vote for me despite receiving resources, rather they voted for the UPND.  In one of the polling stations in Ngombe Ilede ward I got 0 votes and at that same polling station I had 2 PF polling agents.”

He however said President Lungu still loved the people of Southern Province despite their negative attitude towards him.

“His Excellency President Edgar Lungu has the heart for the people of Southern province. Check how many times he has visited the region comparing to other provinces in Zambia,” said Mr Kanyama.
