The Zambia Table Tennis Association (ZTTA) is to hold an annual general meeting (AGM) on July 29th to address the challenges the sport has been facing in the recent past, says interim president Wisdom Kaunda.
Speaking during an interview with Daily Nation Sports in Lusaka, Kaunda said the development of table tennis as a sport had lagged behind in the recent past despite the game being played in all the provinces of Zambia.
Kaunda said that lack of committees in other parts of Zambia has contributed to the lagging behind of the sport.
“What has been missing is the lack of committees in other provinces. And the other thing is that when the previous executive was dissolved, the sport was affected but we are hopeful that the Elective Annual General meeting slated for July 29 will be able to address the challenges we are facing,” Kaunda said.
In July 2016, the National Sports Council of Zambia (NSCZ) dissolve the ZTTA executive committee for allegedly disregarding a directive to hold elections.
But Kaunda said his interim executive committee was willing to hold a ‘peaceful’ AGM and has therefore urged those willing to contribute in developing the sport in Zambia to contest positions of their choice.
He noted that those willing to contest next month’s elective AGM will have to be registered members of ZTTA.
“We are encouraging people from registered club to apply various positions. We are having registrations of clubs and receiving nominations at the same time. July 15th will be the due date for receiving applications,” Kaunda said
“The positions which are being contested are the president, vice president, treasurer, the secretary general, tournaments coordinator and committee members,” he said
Next month’s AGM will be the first one in 7 years.
