TEN Grade 12 pupils at Luampa Secondary School in Western Province have been suspended for being in possession of leaked Biology examination papers last week. In an interview, Luampa District Education Board Secretary Kalimbwe Chingumbe said the pupils were found with leaked examination materials. Mr Chingumbe said the Examination Council of Zambia regulations stated that any pupil found with leaked examination materials would be banned from writing the ECZ examinations until after two years.

Mr Chingumbe, who could not comment further, said that he would write a full report after the examinations were over. Ministry of Education spokesperson, Hillary Chipango, confirmed having received the report of the expelled pupils from Luampa Secondary School in Western Province. Mr Chipango confirmed that the ECZ Act stated that any student found with pre-marked leaked examination papers should be expelled from the rest of the examination period.

He said that the responsibility remained with the police officers in the district to take action and arrest the culprits as the act was criminal according to laid down procedures. Meanwhile, Luampa District Basic Education Teachers’ Union senior trustee, Peggy Zulu, said the situation was unfortunate as all the pupils were sensitised before sitting for their final Grade 12 examinations. Ms Zulu said that security wings in the district should thoroughly investigate the matter in order to establish where the leaked examination papers came from. She, however, stated that no arrests have been made so far. ZANIS
