GOVERNMENT should consider turning Kabwata Cultural Village into a tertiary institution for arts and crafts, says Patriotic Front Kabwata Ward 6 councillor Longa Chiboboka.
Mr. Chiboboka said his office would soon engage the Ministry of Higher Education and Ministry of Tourism and Arts on plans to transform Kabwata Cultural Village beyond a national heritage and tourist site to a learning institution for arts, culture and crafts.
In an interview at the weekend, the civic leader said the institution would offer learning opportunities in theoretical as well as practical courses in art, culture and crafts.
He expressed hope that the project would popularise arts, culture and crafts and equip learners with the necessary skills.
Mr. Chiboboka also said the second phase of the L400 infrastructure development would see Kabwata benefit a 10 kilometres stretch of roads, drainages as well as street lights
He said the L400 project was expected to start next month after all the necessary formalities had been concluded.
And Mr. Chiboboka said Kabwata Basic School has had a water challenge as it was using a hand pump.
He however said that in collaboration with Parents Teachers Association (PTA) it has been agreed to raise funds to construct a borehole and put up a tank.
He has already contributed K1,000 towards the project and that the PTA were making financial contributions.
He said the project would be concluded in the next four months and expressed confidence that it would ensure a healthy and clean learning environment.
Mr. Chiboboka said the tree planting programme was still on- going and had attracted more pupils and community members who had come on board to ensure the ward had green scenery.
