THE UPND is looking at the youth of today as future leaders in politics and business who should be united and innovative, says UPND president Hakainde Hichilema.
Mr Hichilema said that youths were impoverished because of having few access to education and being denied bursaries.
He also said that most youths in Zambia faced difficulties when they wanted to start a business because of challenges in accessing funds
In his commemoration message for Youth Day yesterday, Mr Hichilema said that as much as the party was happy to observe the national day he observed that youths in Zambia faced many challenges such as unemployment and he accused those in Government for not doing much to ease the situation.
“Much as we are happy that this is the day dedicated to the youth, we commiserate with them as there is nothing to celebrate on this day,
“We are looking at the youth of today as future leaders in politics and business who are united and innovative,” Mr Hichilema said.
The opposition leader called on the youths not be used as tools of political violence or stone throwers but instead should be development partners.
He desired to see a crop of youths who would produce the country’s own Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, and the Vusi Thembekwayos.
Mr Hichilema said that the UPND was committed to educational reforms which he hoped would raise entrepreneurship in communities.
