THE Zambia Direct Democracy Movement (ZDDM) has petitioned for an urgent interparty dialogue meeting and has called on President Sata to announce the date.
ZDDM vice president Charles Kafumbo told the Daily Nation, that the political situation in the country seemed to be gloomy hence their concern to appeal to the President to announce the date to convene the interparty dialogue meetings.
“Your Excellency, we have patiently waited for your response to our petition over the above matter but response has come back to us. As a concerned national party which believes in engaging each other through inter party dialogue. We have heard and read that State House doors are open to constructive dialogue on the many issues affecting the nation but our concern is that no practical steps of opening up these doors on dialogue have been opened,” the letter read.
Mr Kafumbo said were expected to see Mr Sata heed to the proposal over the importance for the urgency for interparty dialogue.
He said plans to hold a hunger strike to protest the abuse of the police in harassing of opponent and in the failure of government to arrest and bring to book officers accused of stealing public funds could only be launched by first calling for the President to have an urgent dialogue.
Mr Kafumbo said his party had decided to go on hunger strike owing to the use of state police for oppression of rights and freedoms of citizens in the country.
ZDDM had vowed to camp at the Police head quarters until President Sata addresses among other things the continued calls for an inter parte indaba aimed at defusing the political tension currently prevailing in the country.
